One of the most common reasons for emotional eating is just plan old boredom. When sitting around watching T.V. or playing on the computer, emotional eaters will start to think of food because there is nothing else to do, so you might as well eat something. This can be extremely dangerous for rapid weight gain, if you work from home or you are a stay home mom.

If you know that you are an emotional eater then the next step will be to figure out ways to correct your behavior. Diversion is one of the most effective methods when dealing with emotional eating. When you find yourself wanting to eat, simply find something else to do instead such as exercise or taking a nice long walk..

One option is to replace your junk snacks with healthy food that can increase you energy. So, instead of ripping open a bag of chips you might try carrots and dressing. Be sure to keep you fridge stocked with fruits and vegetables instead of junk food. This way when you are hungry you have no choice but to snack on healthy foods.

Overcoming emotional eating is best accomplished when you have some support, so be sure to talk to your spouse, room mate, friends or family, and ask them to help you overcome you emotional eating habit so that you can be on your way to a healthier lifestyle, and be on your way to feeling better and loosing weight.
